• Myeongdong
For those of you who like to shop for cosmetics, Myeongdong is a place you must go! It is a shopping paradise for cosmetic products as typically you can get big discounts off the original price. Some well-known cosmetics sold there are Etude House, Tony Molly, and Nature Republic. Myeongdong also has a festival twice a year featuring many interesting attractions, such as a fashion show, dance and music. The festival is held to welcome spring and autumn.
• Insadong
For those of you who want to buy typical South Korean souvenirs for your family, Insadong is the place to go. Insadong is located in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Over 40 percent of the stores in Insadong are typical Korean antiques shops. They sell include hanbok (Korean traditional dress), traditional tea, handicrafts, traditional paper, and pottery. Insadong is also renowned as a street food center. Two of the famous foods are kkultarae, a Korean dessert made with honey and maltose, and a unique ice cream called jipangyi ice cream. Besides being a shopping center, this area is also famous for its tourist attractions: Palace Unhyeon, Bosingak Bell Pavilion, and Jongno Tower.
• Hongdae
Go to the Hongdae area to buy quality goods at a low price. One of the famous shopping places is the Hongdae Free Market, a flea market held by students from Hongik University who sell their handcrafts. The market is only open from March to November on Saturday afternoons.
• Dongdaemun
Dongdaemun is a shopping district in Seoul famous for its fashion products at wholesale prices. Some well-known shopping centers in this area are Freya Town, Doosan Tower and Hello APM. Dongdaemun has a variety of options for those who love fashion. Here you can find typical Korean clothes, accessories, and cute trinkets.
